Academic Curriculum
The aim is to provide a broad, balanced curriculum, which allows pupils to experience a wide range of subjects, some of which may not have been offered during their earlier schooling. GCSE Curriculum St George’s curriculum offers most pupils the opportunity to study ten GCSEs, including four optional subjects. The aim for Year 10 and Year 11 is to develop a curriculum that ensures a broadly balanced programme for all pupils, without inhibiting the specialization required for a variety of Advanced Level courses. In Year 10 and Year 11 pupils study the following compulsory core subjects: English Language, English Literature, French, Mathematics and Science. All pupils study the core subjects in classes organised according to ability. In addition, pupils can choose from the following options: Geography, History, Classical Civilisation, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, German, ICT, Spanish, Design Technology, Latin, Religious Studies, Art, Music and PE. Sixth Form Curriculum Sixth Form provision at St George’s ensures a broad and balanced education, both in terms of the academic curriculum and co-curricular activities.

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners, through challenge and rigorous assessment. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme is offered as an alternative to Advanced Level in the Sixth Form. This provides an opportunity to follow a highly regarded and widely recognised, pre-university course. The International Baccalaureate Organisation aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB programmes encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. The IB Diploma is a two year course which meets the needs of well motivated students with all-round capabilities. It offers academic rigour, genuine breadth and coherence, and aims to develop initiative and resourcefulness. We live in a world of global economies and communications and St George’s recognises that students will be part of this world and need the education that allows them to live and to succeed in it. St George’s also offers less academic students the chance to combine the benefits of exposure to some of the IB Diploma Programme with some more practical vocational training through the IB Career related Certificate (IBBC). Limited places are also available for a one year Pre-IB Programme. Round Square Round Square is more than anything an ethos. This ethos stresses that we are rounded individuals who have many talents and that these talents need to be encouraged for us all to develop our true potential. Membership of the Round Square is a great honour for St George’s. It recognises that St George’s does many things well, that we are leaders in adventure training, carers for our environment, democratic in our outlook and give each St George’s student responsibility from an early age. “Plus êtes en vous!” is one of the leading beliefs and mottos of the organisation. Membership of the Round Square opens up access for St George’s students to numerous exciting opportunities to visit the over 80 schools worldwide who share these beliefs. Through exchanges, gap year opportunities and educational conferences at European and World level, the school experience of the St George’s is enriched. St George’s is justly proud of its traditions, but we are also excited to be part of a worldwide community of schools who try to make the difference, to go that extra mile, to help others, both locally and internationally, and in so doing to grow as people who are truly international citizens of the world.
